» Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design department of textile design
Friday, 5 March 2010 7.00 pm and 9.00 pm
Trafo House of Contemporary Art
In the spring of 2010, the students of the MOME textile department will embark on an innovative and exciting venture. They’ll transform the Trafó’s theatre hall into a multitude of catwalks for a single night. The organizers will use the mobile stage to surprise the audience by staging an unusual show. The models and dancers, who will be the models for the night, will show up at unexpected moments from every possible direction. The practically theatrical performance will present the collections of the MOME graduates and third and fourth year students.
We shouldn’t expect to see a ready to wear collection, since the students and artists experiment with various forms and functions, concentrating on the novelty and originality of design. The show will also present the various phases of design: how an idea becomes a piece of clothing or an extravagant haute couture piece of art.

» PÉTER HALÁSZ – Evocation
Friday, 19 March 2010
Mucsarnok
Until 21 March 2010
At a three-day event series, fellow-artists pay homage to the memory of Péter Halász, theatre director, actor, writer and “amateur actor instructor” (as put by the state security service), who died four years ago. To round out the “Halász experience,” the filmic portrait will be complemented with theatre performances and readings, an exhibition of photos and relics, concerts, and a special sound room, with the participation of fellow artists. With this programme we want to ensure that the spirit of this uniquely versatile artist, this trueborn Hungarian thespian, will live on.

» NIGEL KENNEDY and the Danubia Orchestra Óbuda present a unique evening of the masterworks of Bach and Ellington
Friday, 26 March 2010 7.30pm
Palace of Arts
The eccentric violin virtuoso who practically comes home to Budapest first presented his Bach–Ellington programme – that may at first appear unusual – in London in September 2009, on that occasion with the famous Philharmonia Orchestra. Bach has always been much appreciated among jazz musicians, they have always enjoyed improvising on his works and there are countless arrangements and settings. At his festival concert, Kennedy, who always takes an informal tone with his audience, will proceed not from the Baroque master towards jazz, but in the opposite direction: he will look up at Bach’s colossal oeuvre from the world of jazz.
